Package Name: What to do while in Varanasi..

.Live within 1 or 2 km from the ghat area. Godowlia Chowk is a good area. The ghat, Ganga Aarti, Annapoorna Temple and Vishwanath Temple, market and eateries are walking distance from here. Living in the ghat has the advantage of the view of Ganga but the inside alleys of this are are not exactly clean and may not be everybody’s cup of tea. Besides, they are very old building and expensive too.
.Wake up early in the morning and go for a boat ride along the ghats of Ganga and watch Ganga Aarti and the sun rise. The energy is charged here and will surely cleanse the mind, body and soul. Ganga Aarti in the evening while sitting on a boat is a sight to cherish.
.Eat aaloo kachoris and jalebis, or puri aaloo for breakfast. The melt-in-the mouth aaloo kachodis are typical to this place and also very cheap (Rs 5/piece in Dec 2015!).
.You can visit ‘Kachodi waali gal’i or any small shack in Godowlia serves excellent breakfast items, including idlis, vadas, dosas and uttapams. Virender Kachodi Waala in Kachodi Waali Gali is famous for aaloo puri and jalebis.
.The small shacks and dhabas serve better and fresher food than the fancy restaurants. The quality is good and amounts are generous. It is good value for money. A thali for lunch at Rs 70 will suffice for the whole day with plenty of walking.
.Walk along the ghats and enjoy the peace and tranquility, the temple bells , the smell of sandalwood and flower and cow dung, which is in plenty!
.Walk to or take a rickshaw to Kabir Chauraha Math where Saint Kabir meditated and preached to the people. It is a blessing to be able to meditate at this place as the energy is still charged to this day. Read books on Kabir Das’s teaching and listen to the beautiful bhajans that the devotees sing (provided you befriend them). These bhajans are beautiful and soul stirring.
.Benaras Hindu University, BHU, which has a rich cultural heritage and a fine cultural wing trains in classical music and dance. If you get a chance watch a cultural programme hosted by BHU or a bhajan programme on Kabirdas and Tulsidas. Varanasi’s music is deeply influenced by these great saints and has a beautiful and nostalgic hue to it. BHU is also a good place for students of music and dance to pursue a Bachelor’s and Master’s programme.
.Enjoy milk, rabri, rasgulls, gulaab jamuns, samosas and labongalotika at unbelievable price in the evenings..all in the shacks! Ram Bhandaar in Chowk is famous for milk products.
