This epic 11-day itinerary includes touring landmarks such as Moscow’s Kremlin and Red Square, and Catherine Palace and the Hermitage in St. Petersburg. But there’s so much more to see, including quaint Golden Ring towns like Yaroslavl and Uglich, that only a river cruise can provide. Day 1 Arrive in St Petersburg, Russia.
Fly to St Petersburg where you will be met and transferred to your ship, MS Nikolay Chernishevsky. This evening, enjoy dinner and live piano music on board. (D)
Day 2 St Petersburg.
Admire St Petersburg’s historic center on an included tour this morning and take in highlights such as the Old Stock Exchange and Rostral Columns, the Winter Palace façade, Peter & Paul Fortress, and Nevsky Prospect with its ornate onion-domed Church of the Resurrection and beautiful St Isaac Cathedral. After lunch, visit the Hermitage Museum. This evening, enjoy either an optional excursion to a Russian folklore show or an optional ‘Rivers and Canals’ tour. (B,L,D)
Day 3 St Petersburg.
Today’s optional excursion takes you to Pushkin, home to the luxurious summer palaces of former Russian royalty. Visit Catherine Palace to marvel at the famed Amber Room and other lavish chambers, before heading to nearby Peterhof to see the beautiful lower park and beautiful palace exterior. This evening, set sail on the Neva River and enjoy a ‘Getting to Know You’ show on board. (B,L,D)
Day 4 Mandrogui.
Built to resemble a traditional Russian hamlet, Mandrogui is set amidst pretty parkland on the banks of the Svir River and is peppered with pretty wooden buildings topped with colorful tiles and woodcarvings. Enjoy the shops and artisan workshops before tucking into a tasty Russian treat – a succulent shashlik kebab. Back on board your ship, enjoy a Russian language lesson. (B,L,D)
Day 5 Kizhi.
Cruise to Lake Onega’s picture book island of Kizhi for a visit to the impressive Museum of Wooden Architecture. Famed for its distinctive Transfiguration Church with 22 cupolas, the UNESCO World Heritage site is also home to many other ancient wooden buildings, painstakingly relocated from all over Russia. Back on board, this afternoon’s activities include a Captain’s bridge tour and a Russian tea party, followed by a classical concert in the evening. (B,L,D)
Day 6 Goritsy.
After breakfast, enjoy a traditional Russian song class before cruising across the White Lake to Goritsy, a quaint village settlement near the famous Kirill-Belosersk (St Cyril) Monastery. This afternoon, visit the monastery’s intriguing Museum of Icons. Tonight, enjoy a pirate themed dinner before this evening’s concert. (B,L,D)
Day 7 Yaroslavl.
This morning, arrive in Yaroslavl, one of Russia’s ‘Golden Ring of Cities’. View the cities highlights on an included bus tour to see the exterior of the Church of Elijah the Prophet before visiting the colorful local market, the Church of St Nicholas the Miracle-worker, and the Governor’s House art exhibition. This evening, enjoy a Ukrainian dinner on board followed by a gala concert. (B,L,D)
Day 8 Uglich.
Another ‘Golden Ring’ city, Uglich is one of Russia’s best-loved towns. Explore this fascinating 12th-century village on a walking tour including the former Kremlin, the haunting Church of St Dmitry on the Blood, and the Transfiguration Cathedral. This afternoon, enjoy a Russian language lesson and a farewell dinner before getting the chance to star in tonight’s talent show. (B,L,D)
Day 9 Moscow.
This morning, sail the Moscow Canal to Russia’s capital, one of the world’s most impressive and interesting cities. Explore Moscow on an included city tour, admiring highlights such as the colorful onion domes of St Basil’s Cathedral, the legendary Red Square, Novodevichy Convent, and spectacular views from the Sparrow Hills. This evening, there’s an optional ‘Moscow by night’ excursion. (B,L,D)
Day 10 Moscow.
Marvel at imposing red-brick towers and extravagant palaces on today’s included visit to the famous Kremlin, and view historic Cathedral Square, where gleaming gold domes and cupolas sit atop three of the Kremlin’s best known architectural treasures: the Dormition, Annunciation and Archangel Michael cathedrals. This afternoon, join the optional excursion to Sergiyev Posad. (B,L,D)
